[The Woodlands, TX] – In a heartwarming celebration of service, leadership, and community spirit, the National Charity League (NCL), Inc., Bluebonnet Chapter held its annual Ticktocker Tea & Tribute at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. This event, a cornerstone of the chapter’s year, was an opportunity to honor the remarkable young women—known as Ticktockers—who have devoted themselves to making a difference in their community.

In the National Charity League (NCL), the daughters are called "Ticktockers." This term is not related to the social media company TikTok. Instead, it reflects the idea of time and the growth that these young women experience through their involvement in NCL's activities. The moms in the organization are referred to as "Patronesses." They mentor and participate with their daughters in the league's philanthropic, leadership, and cultural activities.

These young women, many of whom are active participants in their schools' athletics, cheer, dance, theatre, and student clubs, were recognized not only for their academic and extracurricular achievements but also for their deep commitment to volunteerism. The pride the community feels for these Ticktockers was evident throughout the day, as the event highlighted their contributions and the lasting impact they’ve made.

The Tea Committee, led by the dedicated Courtney Challis, orchestrated a memorable event that truly reflected the spirit of the NCL’s mission. Courtney, who played a pivotal role in organizing the event, shared her thoughts on the significance of the Ticktockers' efforts. "When they volunteer, they get out of their bubble and meet people in a diverse group of situations," she said. "Getting to have that time with my daughter is something that you’ll never get back, and it’s an experience that shapes them into the leaders of tomorrow."

The event’s spotlight was on the Ticktockers’ charitable work, with special recognition given to those who went above and beyond in their service. Miss Elizabeth Grace Porter of the Class of 2027 was awarded the prestigious Merci Award for the highest number of service hours in the NCL calendar year. Elizabeth also received the Mission Bell Award for completing over 50 hours of service at a single chapter philanthropy, contributing 57.5 hours to The Woodlands Children’s Museum. Her dedication is a shining example of the values that the NCL instills in its members.

As the Class of 2025 prepares to enter their final year, the seniors were celebrated for their years of service and leadership. These young women, including Ashlyn Burrer, Brennan Bynum, Audrey Curran, Ava Dubbs, Mary Macie Ezell, Halle Frey, Sarah Fry, Addison Guthrie, Kinsey Howell, Brodie Hunter, Julia Hunter, Carly Keating, Elyse McCauley, Marissa Miller, Laurel Montgomery, Claire Nuckols, Abbie Schmitt, Josephine Sewall, Jillian Spackey, Audrey Stinson, Lauren Swayze, Emily Trahan, Ainsley Treutle, Emily Vacha, and Avery Warren, have left a lasting impact on their community through their unwavering commitment to service.

One of the most heartfelt moments of the day was the presentation of the Mother-Daughter Award, which highlighted the unique bond between mothers and daughters who volunteer together. Kathleen and Brennan Bynum were honored for their incredible 202 hours of service, Kristen and Emily Vacha for their 159 hours, and Sheila Patel and Ava Dubbs for their 129 hours. Additional honorees included Lorraine and Brodie Hunter (88 hours), Jennifer and Julia Hunter (85 hours), Dee and Kinsey Howell (67 hours), Kelly and Ainsley Treutle (62 hours), Jenny and Avery Warren (58 hours), and Susan and Jillian Spackey (50 hours). These awards underscored the special connection forged through shared acts of kindness and giving back to the community.

The event’s elegance perfectly reflected the pride felt for these young women. The room and lobby were transformed by the efforts of dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to create an inviting and beautiful atmosphere. Tables were dressed with crisp white linens and gold-rimmed plates, accented by blue and white vases brimming with hydrangeas and lemons. Adding to the celebration’s warmth and sophistication, the Ticktockers and their Patronesses arrived in charming summer dresses, enhancing the day’s festive spirit.

The NCL - Bluebonnet Chapter is a group of mothers and daughters who have come together in a commitment to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.

In addition to celebrating the Ticktockers' contributions, the community’s impact was extended through a significant donation to Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), an organization dedicated to building and delivering beds to children in need. Mike Fortner, President of the Montgomery County Chapter of SHP, was the honored guest and speaker at the event. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude, saying, "Seeing the community come together to ensure that no child sleeps on the floor in our town is truly inspiring. The support from groups like the Bluebonnet Chapter of NCL allows us to continue this important work and reach even more families in need."

The partnership with SHP is just one example of how the Bluebonnet Chapter’s efforts reach beyond their own community, making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. The donation will directly contribute to providing more beds for children, ensuring they have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

The event also featured a recognition of the Bluebonnet Board for the 2024-2025 year. The board members, including Mallory Steelman (President Elect), Jenny Noto (VP Philanthropy), Tracy Borgmeyer (VP Ticktockers), Jaime Calhoun (VP Chapter Engagement & Inclusion), Kathryn Lee (VP Communications), Tiffany Beck (VP Membership), Lezlie Herm (VP New Members), Alana Ansley (Parliamentarian), Shelly Alexander (Secretary), and Lizzy Piana (Treasurer), were acknowledged for their leadership and the vital roles they play in guiding the chapter’s activities and initiatives.

As the afternoon drew to a close, the NCL Bluebonnet Chapter reflected on the year’s accomplishments and looked ahead with excitement and determination. The community’s pride in these young women was palpable, and there was a collective sense of purpose as the chapter continues to nurture the next generation of leaders.

The Woodlands Student Center was invited to the event to capture the celebration and highlight the achievements of the community’s youth.

Throughout the event, photographs taken to documented the joy, connections, and pride shared by everyone in attendance. These images will serve as cherished reminders of a day dedicated to celebrating the bright futures these young women are shaping through their service and leadership.

The Ticktocker Tea & Tribute stands as a testament to the power of community, the importance of service, and the enduring impact of nurturing future leaders. As the Bluebonnet Chapter moves forward, the community can take pride in knowing that these young women are not only changing their own lives but also making a positive difference in the lives of countless others.
