College Park Ends Grand Oaks’ 71-Game District Win Streak; Willis Threatens Oak Ridge Playoff Hopes
THE WOODLANDS STUDENT CENTER | VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP
College Park's historic victory ends more than five seasons of district dominance, while Willis surges toward a possible playoff berth with two matches remaining.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Imagine a high school volleyball team beginning the 2027 district season and winning every district match for five consecutive years. Even then, the team would need another victory in September 2032 just to equal Grand Oaks' remarkable 71-match district winning streak.
That streak ended Friday, October 16, when College Park defeated Grand Oaks 3–1, handing the Grizzlies their first district loss in more than five seasons' worth of competition.
With 14 district matches per season, 71 consecutive victories represent five complete undefeated district seasons plus one additional win. Graduating classes changed, opponents came and went, and Grand Oaks continued winning.
Until Friday.

College Park turns the tables on Grand Oaks
The Cavaliers' victory wasn't entirely unexpected. Grand Oaks had survived a five-set battle against College Park on September 22 and another five-set challenge against The Woodlands three days later.
College Park finally broke through Friday, improving to 10–2 and moving within one match of district-leading Grand Oaks at 11–1.
The result also completed an interesting pattern among the district's leading programs.
College Park's only two district losses came against Grand Oaks and The Woodlands. The Cavaliers split their season series with both schools, losing 3–2 to Grand Oaks in September before winning Friday's rematch 3–1.
Against The Woodlands, College Park won 3–1 on September 11 before the Highlanders responded with a 3–0 victory on October 6.
Those results suggest the district's top three teams are more evenly matched than their records alone might indicate.
Grand Oaks still controls the championship race
Despite Friday's defeat, Grand Oaks remains in position to win the outright district championship.
Victories over The Woodlands on Tuesday and Cleveland on Friday would give the Grizzlies a 13–1 district record.
College Park must defeat Oak Ridge and Caney Creek while hoping Grand Oaks loses at least once to create an opportunity to share first place.
The Woodlands, currently 9–3, also remains mathematically capable of finishing in a tie for first under the right combination of results.
Tuesday's Grand Oaks–The Woodlands rematch could therefore have significant championship implications.
Our prediction: Grand Oaks rebounds to finish 13–1, followed by College Park at 12–2 and The Woodlands at 11–3.
Willis threatens Oak Ridge's playoff position
While the championship race attracts attention, the district's fourth and final playoff berth may produce the week's biggest drama.
Oak Ridge stands at 7–5, one victory ahead of Willis at 6–6. However, the Wildkats have won three consecutive district matches, including impressive victories over The Woodlands and Oak Ridge.
Willis swept The Woodlands 3–0 on October 9, then defeated Oak Ridge 3–1 on October 13. Those victories demonstrated that the Wildkats can compete with teams currently occupying playoff positions.
The remaining schedules favor Willis.
The Wildkats conclude against Caney Creek and Conroe, two teams they defeated in straight sets earlier this season.
Oak Ridge faces College Park and The Woodlands, both of which defeated the War Eagles in their first meetings.
If Willis wins twice and Oak Ridge loses twice, the Wildkats would finish 8–6 and take fourth place outright. One Oak Ridge victory combined with two Willis wins would leave both teams at 8–6, requiring the district's tiebreaker procedure.
Our prediction: Willis completes its late-season comeback, winning both remaining matches while Oak Ridge loses twice.
Three teams clinch, three eliminated
Grand Oaks, College Park and The Woodlands have mathematically secured postseason berths.
Conroe, Caney Creek and Cleveland have been eliminated from playoff contention.
That leaves Willis and Oak Ridge fighting for the remaining position as the regular season enters its final week.
Tuesday's matches to watch
The Woodlands at Grand Oaks — 5:30 p.m.
The Highlanders pushed Grand Oaks to five sets in September. Following Friday's upset, another close contest is possible. We favor Grand Oaks to respond with a victory.
College Park at Oak Ridge — 5:30 p.m.
College Park swept Oak Ridge in September and enters with momentum after defeating Grand Oaks. We favor the Cavaliers, putting additional pressure on the War Eagles.
Willis at Caney Creek — 5:30 p.m.
Willis won the first meeting 3–0. The Wildkats should extend their winning streak to four matches and strengthen their playoff position.
Conroe at Cleveland
Neither team remains in postseason contention, but both have opportunities to finish the season with positive results.

The final word
Grand Oaks' streak may be over, but its accomplishment remains extraordinary. A team beginning a comparable district winning streak in 2027 would not equal 71 consecutive victories until approximately September 2032.
College Park deserves credit for ending that streak and establishing itself as a serious postseason contender. The Cavaliers have now defeated both Grand Oaks and The Woodlands this season, while splitting their two-match series with each.
Meanwhile, Willis has transformed the battle for fourth place. Victories over The Woodlands and Oak Ridge, combined with a favorable remaining schedule, make the Wildkats our choice to claim the final playoff berth.
Our projected playoff field: Grand Oaks, College Park, The Woodlands and Willis.
The regular season concludes Friday, October 23, with district teams preparing for the UIL postseason.
