Cypress, Texas – College Park High School continued a historic playoff run Friday night with a 44–11 victory over Cypress Lakes at The Berry Center Stadium, winning the UIL 6A Area Championship and advancing to the third round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

The game was delayed by lightning before kickoff, but the Cavaliers stayed focused and controlled the game from start to finish. Cypress Lakes was making its first-ever playoff appearance.

College Park opened the scoring with a 35-yard field goal by senior kicker Beckett Cocke with 6:15 remaining in the first quarter after a drive that began at the Cypress Lakes 44-yard line. Early in the quarter, starting quarterback Camden Hughes suffered a lower-body injury, and senior Rodrigo Bravo stepped in to guide the offense the rest of the night.

From there, the Cavaliers leaned heavily on their running game. Duke Stephens broke open the game with a 54-yard burst up the middle from College Park’s own 5-yard line, followed on the next play by a 24-yard gain. Those consecutive runs forced Cypress Lakes’ linebackers to stay tight inside and protect the middle of the field for the rest of the night. Stephens finished with 256 rushing yards on 17 carries, showing strong vision, patience at the line of scrimmage and controlled cuts through traffic. Antonio Booker later added an 18-yard rushing touchdown to give the Cavaliers a 10–0 lead after the first quarter.

College Park extended the lead in the second quarter when Jordan Styles scored on a 14-yard jet sweep with 9:27 remaining before halftime. Fog began rolling into the stadium during the quarter, adding to the atmosphere as College Park carried a 17–0 lead into the break.

The Cavaliers remained in control in the second half. Stephens added a 44-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, his fifth touchdown of the season. Cocke continued his strong night with field goals of 30 and 25 yards. Cypress Lakes got on the scoreboard with a 24-yard field goal by Sirron Norris late in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, College Park recovered a fumble at the Cypress Lakes 37-yard line, setting up a 37-yard rushing touchdown by Brian Snodgrass. Later, Tate Chowaniec connected with Jake Ericsson for a 35-yard touchdown pass down the right side of the formation. Cypress Lakes closed the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass from left-handed quarterback Darius Watson to C.J. Lewis, followed by a two-point conversion caught by Theodis Fields. College Park finished the night with 366 rushing yards and 75 passing yards.

With the win, College Park reached a major milestone, scoring a total of 600 points this season, reflecting the consistency of the Cavaliers’ offense throughout the year.

Looking ahead, head coach Kyle Coats will face familiar territory when College Park takes on DeSoto High School in the third round. Coats previously served as a co-defensive coordinator for DeSoto in 2022, adding another layer of connection to the upcoming matchup.

After the game, Coats also pointed to the effort of his wide receiver group. With starting quarterback Camden Hughes leaving the game early, the Cavaliers shifted to a run-heavy attack. The approach was also designed to keep the clock moving once College Park built its lead. The wide receivers played a key role downfield, holding blocks and engaging defenders to help spring long runs. The effort showed the versatility and team-first mentality of the group, as they adjusted their role to support the ground game and contribute in ways that don’t always show up in the stat sheet.

Through the changing weather, the College Park Reveliers and the Cavalier marching band stayed active in the stands, playing throughout the second half and helping maintain energy along the Cavaliers’ sideline. The College Park cheerleaders remained on the field in varsity white uniforms covered by raincoats, continuing to support the team despite the fog and damp conditions.

The win marked the UIL 6A Area Championship for College Park under head coach Kyle Coats, as players and fans gathered on the field following the game to celebrate the program’s deepest playoff run to date.

College Park will face the DeSoto Eagles (9–3) from Dallas in the third round of the UIL 6A state playoffs.
