Community gathers at College Park High School to celebrate milestone moment
Thursday, July 24, 2025
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Conroe Independent School District hosted its 2025 Summer Commencement Ceremony on Thursday evening at College Park High School, celebrating 37 students who fulfilled their graduation requirements this summer. The graduates represented all seven district high schools.
The formal program began with the processional to Pomp and Circumstance, followed by a presentation of colors by the College Park High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC. These student cadets volunteered their time during the summer to serve in this ceremonial role. Sequoia Skyra Reed of Washington High School led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Michael Cristian Knox of Grand Oaks High School recited the Texas Pledge.
Assistant Superintendent for High Schools Dr. Chris Povich introduced district officials, including Interim Superintendent Dr. Ted Landry and Conroe ISD Board of Trustees members Melissa Dungan and Lindsay Dawson.
Washington High School graduate Zoe Daniels served as student speaker, offering a powerful and personal reflection on perseverance. She described late nights, family support, and the determination shared by every graduate on stage. “We all had something to overcome to get here,” Daniels told the crowd.
Following the student address, graduates were called forward one by one. Each student’s name was announced to the crowd as they walked across the stage. They were first greeted with a handshake from Dr. Landry. Then, they received their diploma from either Dungan or Dawson and paused briefly for a commemorative photo on stage. The final gesture was a handshake from their high school principal, followed by cheers and applause from the audience.
The participating high schools included Caney Creek, College Park, Conroe, Grand Oaks, Oak Ridge, Washington, and The Woodlands. Principals from each campus stood in the procession line to congratulate their students personally.
Before the ceremony, each graduate arrived for an official commemorative portrait. These individual photos provided families a keepsake before the public celebration.
Dr. Landry reflected on the experience from his vantage point on stage:
“I’m so proud to share this moment with our graduates. From where I stood, I saw not only the pride in each student’s eyes—but the overwhelming pride in their families seated right behind them. That’s the real beauty of a night like this.”
Dr. Povich led the official turning of the tassels and closed the ceremony by wishing the students well in their post-secondary journeys.
Afterward, families gathered outside in the warm evening air for photos, congratulations, and celebration.
