District 13-6A Volleyball: Willis Threatens to Shake Up Playoff Race
Oak Ridge faces a dangerous Willis team in Tuesday's biggest matchup, while Caney Creek fights to avoid elimination, Conroe faces a difficult challenge, and Grand Oaks looks for its 71st consecutive district victory.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — With four matches remaining in the District 13-6A volleyball regular season, the race for the fourth and final playoff berth is becoming the district's most compelling storyline. Oak Ridge holds the advantage, but Willis is gaining momentum at precisely the right time.
Grand Oaks (10–0), College Park (9–2) and The Woodlands (7–3) occupy the top three positions. Oak Ridge (6–4) sits fourth, with Willis (4–6) hoping to close the gap. At the bottom of the standings, Cleveland has already been mathematically eliminated, while Caney Creek and Conroe are running out of opportunities.

Oak Ridge vs. Willis: An Upset Waiting to Happen?
Willis may have the inferior record, but the Ladykats enter Tuesday's road match against Oak Ridge looking like a team nobody wants to face.
Friday's convincing sweep of The Woodlands, 25–20, 25–21, 27–25, was no fluke. Kennadie Gibson recorded 14 kills, while Audra Wood contributed 13 digs and three aces. Willis didn't merely steal a close match; it controlled one of the district's stronger programs in three sets.
Oak Ridge has been less convincing lately, losing four of its last seven matches, including a straight-set defeat against Grand Oaks. The War Eagles have the better record, home-court advantage and an imposing presence at the net, led by senior Micah Rusher.
But the standings may be giving Oak Ridge more credit than its recent performances deserve. Willis is playing with urgency, and the Ladykats have already demonstrated they can beat a team ahead of them in the standings.
Prediction: Willis wins in five sets. Oak Ridge remains the safer choice on paper, but Willis has the momentum and confidence to produce another upset. A Ladykats victory would turn the fourth-place race into a genuine battle heading into the final week.
Grand Oaks vs. Caney Creek: Two Teams Headed in Opposite Directions
Grand Oaks enters Tuesday's meeting with Caney Creek as the overwhelming favorite, and there is little reason to believe the Panthers can change that.
The Grizzlies have won 70 consecutive regular-season district matches since their last district defeat against The Woodlands in September 2022. Every victory extends that remarkable run, which has survived multiple graduating classes and several serious challenges.
College Park and The Woodlands both pushed Grand Oaks to five sets earlier this season, but neither could finish the job. Caney Creek has not demonstrated the consistency or firepower necessary to challenge the district leader.
For the Panthers, the situation is considerably more serious. At 2–8, Caney Creek faces mathematical elimination with another loss.
Prediction: Grand Oaks wins in three sets. The Grizzlies should have little difficulty extending their streak to 71 while ending Caney Creek's postseason hopes.
College Park vs. Conroe: Cavaliers Should Take Care of Business
Conroe has shown flashes of determination, but defeating College Park would be the Tigers' biggest surprise of the season.
The Cavaliers enter at 9–2, firmly positioned near the top of the district standings. They swept Conroe in their first meeting and have consistently handled opponents in the lower half of the standings.
Conroe (3–7) recently needed five sets to defeat Caney Creek, a result that demonstrates the Tigers' willingness to compete but also highlights the gap between Conroe and the district's strongest teams.
With elimination pressure building, Conroe needs far more than another competitive performance. It needs an upset.
Prediction: College Park wins in three sets. The Cavaliers are simply the stronger team, and Conroe's postseason hopes will be hanging by a thread if the expected result holds.
The Woodlands vs. Cleveland: Highlanders Need More Than a Victory
The Woodlands should have little trouble defeating winless Cleveland, but Tuesday's match is about more than adding another victory.
The Highlanders were swept by Willis on Friday, an unsettling result for a program preparing for postseason competition. Earlier, The Woodlands had swept College Park behind strong performances from Summer Read, Mya Dickerson and Olivia Hertel.
Those contrasting performances reveal a team capable of competing with the district's best but not always delivering that level of volleyball consistently.
Cleveland (0–10) has already been mathematically eliminated and remains without a district victory. An upset would be one of the season's biggest surprises.
Prediction: The Woodlands wins in three sets. Anything less would be another warning sign. The Highlanders need to rediscover the sharpness that made them dangerous against College Park, not simply take advantage of an overmatched opponent.
The Final Stretch
Grand Oaks appears headed toward another undefeated district season, College Park remains firmly positioned for the playoffs, and The Woodlands should have enough separation to remain among the top four.
The fourth playoff berth is where things could get interesting.
Oak Ridge controls its position, but its recent inconsistency has opened the door for Willis. The Ladykats have little room for error, yet Friday's victory over The Woodlands suggests their record may not reflect how well they are playing right now.
Caney Creek is one loss from elimination, Conroe needs an unlikely turnaround, and Cleveland is already looking toward next season.
Tuesday's picks: Grand Oaks, College Park, The Woodlands and Willis.
The first three are straightforward. Picking Willis is a gamble, but the Ladykats have earned the benefit of the doubt after Friday's statement victory. If they can carry that performance into Oak Ridge, the District 13-6A playoff race could become much more entertaining than the standings currently suggest.
