The Woodlands, TX - According to an H-E_B press release, The Texas-based grocery chain H-E-B is expanding support for Apple Pay to all its locations statewide. This decision follows a successful pilot program at a Central Market store in Dallas earlier this year. H-E-B operates more than 300 locations, making it one of the largest grocery chains in Texas.

The rollout, which began on October 7, will start in the San Antonio region and gradually extend to all other locations, including Mi Tienda stores in Houston. Customers will be able to use tap-to-pay services like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay at cash registers, self-checkout lanes, and in-store H-E-B brand restaurants and pharmacies. However, the service will not be available at fuel pumps.

“Support for contactless payment platforms has been one of the most requested services from our customers.” - Ashwin Nathan, H-E-B Vice President

H-E-B’s move comes amid increasing adoption of contactless payments in the grocery industry. While major competitors like Kroger have already adopted Apple Pay, others such as Walmart and Home Depot remain holdouts.

The phased rollout is expected to be completed by the end of the month, providing Texas residents with more payment options and convenience while shopping at H-E-B.
