Future Collegiate Stars Commit to Prestigious Universities
In a proud moment for The John Cooper School, six distinguished student-athletes signed their National Letters of Intent in the Dunlap Gymnasium on Wednesday, February, 7, 2024 committing to continue their academic and athletic careers at notable colleges across the country.
The John Cooper School campus was abuzz with excitement as Athletic Director John Hoye introduced the six seniors during a ceremonial Signing Day event. In the presence of their parents, classmates, teammates, faculty, and friends, each athlete took a significant step towards their collegiate futures.
Mario Awasum, a standout basketball player, will be taking his talents to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, aiming to combine his passion for sports with a rigorous study in biology and pre-med. Cooper Sansbury has committed to playing football at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, California, where he will also study economics. Cole Sheppard and Jackson Todd will both join the football program at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, with Todd focusing on finance. Nico Signorelli, an exceptional pole vaulter, has chosen Texas A&M for his next chapter. Rounding out the group, Jonathan Trenholme will be heading to the University of Chicago, bringing his football prowess to the Windy City.
Each table was adorned with decorations reflecting the colors of the colleges these athletes will soon join, creating a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere in the gymnasium. The event not only highlighted the athletes' past achievements but also their promising futures.
The ceremony underscored The John Cooper School's commitment to nurturing student-athletes who excel both in their sports and in the classroom. Dr. Stephen Popp, Head of School, expressed immense pride in the students' accomplishments and their representation of the school's values at the collegiate level.
