THE WOODLANDS, Texas — The Rotary Club of The Woodlands hosted Melissa Jurik, vice president of development for Inspiration Ranch, as the guest speaker at its Thursday luncheon at The Woodlands Country Club.
Rotary Club President Matt Bottorff opened the luncheon and welcomed members and guests before Denton Florian introduced Jurik. The program gave attendees an overview of Inspiration Ranch, the people it serves and the resources available to families, volunteers and community organizations.

Inspiration Ranch is a 40-acre nonprofit facility in the Tomball area that uses horses as part of therapeutic riding and mental health programs. Its services are designed for children, adults and families facing physical, emotional, cognitive and social challenges.
The organization’s therapeutic riding program serves more than 100 clients each week and is accredited through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. Clients represent approximately 35 diagnoses, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, paralysis and traumatic brain injuries.
Jurik reported that Inspiration Ranch served 114 clients and conducted 3,338 therapeutic riding sessions during the previous year. The ranch has 20 horses, with approximately 16 participating in therapeutic riding. Caregiver surveys have shown improvements in participants’ physical strength, attention, behavior, coordination and confidence.

Demand for the program remains greater than the ranch’s current capacity. Jurik said approximately 80 people are on the waiting list because the number of clients the organization can accept is limited by space, staffing, horses and other resources.
Inspiration Ranch also provides equine-assisted mental health services. Licensed psychotherapists work with horse specialists and trained horses to help participants address trauma, trust, communication, boundaries and relationships. The ground-based sessions allow clients to observe and respond to the horses’ body language without riding.
The ranch works with community health and service organizations, including Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands, where doctors may refer patients for therapeutic riding. It also partners with organizations serving people recovering from emotional trauma.
Financial assistance is available for participating families. Clients pay no more than $50 per therapeutic riding session, and qualifying families may receive scholarships or reduced rates based on financial need.
Community members can also support the ranch through individual service, group volunteer projects, gardening, fence repair and property improvements. Businesses and organizations may arrange employee service days, meetings and other group activities at the ranch.

The luncheon reflected The Rotary Club of The Woodlands’ focus on service, humanitarian work and community involvement. The club’s stated mission includes building goodwill, providing service and encouraging high ethical standards in professional life.
