THE WOODLANDS, Texas — District 13-6A volleyball reaches the final night of the regular season Friday with most of the postseason picture settled — except for the spot that suddenly matters most.

Willis has won four straight district matches, climbing from 3-6 to 7-6 and pulling even with Oak Ridge for fourth place. That late surge has turned what once looked like Oak Ridge’s playoff position into a genuine final-night fight.
Grand Oaks, College Park and The Woodlands have already secured postseason places. Conroe, Caney Creek and Cleveland are mathematically eliminated, leaving Willis and Oak Ridge battling for the fourth and final berth.
The game to watch is The Woodlands at Oak Ridge.
Oak Ridge fell to 7-6 after Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to College Park and now faces a Woodlands team that already beat the War Eagles 3-1 in their first meeting. The Highlanders are safely in the postseason, but Oak Ridge has no such comfort. A loss Friday could end the War Eagles’ season, particularly with Willis drawing a much more favorable matchup against Conroe.
For Oak Ridge’s seniors, the stakes are even more personal: Friday is their final scheduled regular-season match on their home floor. MaxPreps lists the match for 4:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Ridge.
Willis has earned the better position entering the finale. The Wildkats’ four-game winning streak includes victories over The Woodlands and Oak Ridge, and they close at home against 4-9 Conroe. Willis already swept the Tigers in the first meeting and should be favored to do it again.
At the top, Grand Oaks rebounded from its first district loss of the season by sweeping The Woodlands on Tuesday. The Grizzlies finish at Cleveland and, barring a major upset, should handle the winless Indians comfortably. Grand Oaks won the first meeting 3-0.
College Park has also made its job simple. The Cavaliers have won four straight, including the victory that ended Grand Oaks’ 71-match district winning streak, and close at home against Caney Creek. College Park swept the Panthers in their first meeting and is a clear favorite Friday.
For the seniors at College Park, Oak Ridge, Willis and Cleveland, Friday is the final scheduled regular-season appearance on their home floor — one last home night before the district season closes.
Grand Oaks and College Park should take care of business. Willis should too.
That leaves Oak Ridge out.
Friday’s district finale is really about whether the War Eagles can keep their season alive against The Woodlands while Willis tries to finish one of the district’s best late-season runs.
