Gordon Food Service to Open New Store in The Woodlands

Bringing Fresh, Bulk Food Options to Local Restaurants and Residents

Gordon Food Service, a renowned Michigan-based food distributor, has announced its expansion into The Woodlands area, with a new store set to open by the end of 2024. This move promises to enhance the local food landscape, providing both convenience and economic benefits to the community and high school students alike.

Located at 536 Sawdust Road, Spring, the upcoming Gordon Food Service store is expected to become a culinary hub for The Woodlands. Slated for a remodeling start on February 1st, with an estimated cost of $1.2 million, the store is designed to cater to both restaurant owners and the general public, offering a wide range of fresh and packaged produce and goods.

What sets Gordon Food Service apart from other bulk grocers like Costco or Sam's Club is its no-membership policy, making its offerings more accessible to everyone. Spanning 25,000 to 30,000 square feet, the store will employ around 40 full-time and part-time employees, contributing to the local job market.

Operating hours are set from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The store’s focus remains on food products, excluding household items typical in traditional supermarkets. Services such as same-day delivery and online ordering for in-store pickup are also part of the store's offerings.

For families and individuals, the store brings a variety of seasonal produce, meats, meal solutions, and ready-to-eat items like fried chicken, ribs, deli sandwiches, and fresh juices. An exciting addition for the Houston-area stores is the daily production of fresh tortillas in their tortillerias, a feature tailored for the local community.

Gordon Food Service, initially a butter-and-egg delivery service over a century ago, has grown significantly since opening its first store in 1979. The company's expansion into The Woodlands marks a continuation of its commitment to community-focused service and quality food distribution.

The arrival of Gordon Food Service in The Woodlands is more than just a new shopping destination; it represents a significant boost for local businesses, offering a convenient and comprehensive food source. For high school students, it provides opportunities for part-time employment and learning about food service and retail industries. This addition is set to enrich the community's gastronomic landscape, making The Woodlands an even more attractive location for businesses and families.
